It’s important to note that some labels may serve multiple purposes or overlap in their classification. The classification provided here is a general guide to the different types of printed labels commonly used in clothing.

Printed satin labels are crafted from a polyester-based material that is 100% polyester. These labels are commonly utilized in clothing, bedding, underwear, and baby apparel. All the desired information, including logos, text, size, design, slogan, website URL, and washing care instructions, can be printed on the surface of the satin ribbon using ink. The ribbon material boasts a smooth texture, glossy sheen, and luxurious softness, making it immensely popular. Due to its seamless backdrop, the printed satin label is widely favored as a care label, allowing for intricate details and fine printing.

F.A.Q. Guide to Printed Labels and Ordering

Table of Content

1. What is a printed label?

Water-based ink is used to print the label’s logo, text, size, pattern, slogan, website, washing instructions, etc. on the surface of each material. The material for the printed label is very soft, itch-free, and can capture small details, so it is very popular. These printed labels are usually seen on underwear, T-shirts, as well as other underclothing, bedding, and baby clothing.

2. The advantages of printed labels.

  • Printed labels have the advantage of capturing even the tiniest details, thanks to their distinctive printing process as opposed to weaving. This means that your custom printed labels can provide a wide range of information, allowing for intricate designs.
  • When it comes to lead time, ribbon printing surpasses weaving labels in terms of production speed. If you require labels urgently, printed labels can be swiftly produced, minimizing the risk of profit loss.
  • Unlike woven labels, printed labels are not limited in terms of color options. They offer the freedom to choose from a vast spectrum of millions of vivid colors, allowing for richer and more vibrant hues.
  • Labels can be printed on both sides: The printed label can be double-sided, allowing more information and content.
  • Suitable for intimate apparel: Because the material is super soft, the two sides are woven, which will not irritate the skin, it is more suitable for intimate apparel like T-shirts, underwear, baby clothing, etc.

3. What options are there for custom printed labels?

At, a wide variety of custom printed labels are available, encompassing different materials and styles. Each custom clothing label can be tailored to your specific design concept, crafted from scratch. You have the option to personalize these labels with your desired text and symbol, or even feature your own logo. offers a variety of printed label materials, including 100% satin tape, recycled satin tape, 100% cotton tape, organic cotton tape, recycled cotton tape, nylon tape, Tyvek tape, and TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) tape. Each type of material has a unique look and feel, which continually allows you to choose.

      – Printed satin labels, made entirely from 100% satin, offer a luxurious and silky feel against the skin. Additionally, there is an environmentally-friendly alternative with recycled satin material.

      – Cotton labels, crafted entirely from 100% cotton, boast a stunning natural appearance unique to this material. Not only are these labels environmentally friendly, but they are also biodegradable. They are offered in various options, including eco-friendly cotton, organic cotton, and recycled cotton materials.

      – Tyvek printed labels are most commonly seen on furniture items, such as sofas, chairs, or mattresses. Tyvek is a paper-like material with flash spun high-density polyethylene fibers. It is a synthetic material.

      – TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) printed labels are highly favored by numerous clients in the swimwear, yoga wear, and activewear industries due to their exceptional qualities. These labels are renowned for their long-lasting durability and remarkable softness to the touch.

4. The size of the printed labels.

Because the raw material of the printed label is woven tape, the size will be fixed. The minimum size is 1.0cm and the maximum size is 6.0cm. The most commonly used sizes are between 1-4cm, and the size of each material is not the same. All of the tape heights can be changed in 0.5cm increments, such as 1.0cm, 1.5cm, 2.0cm, 2.5cm, 3.0cm, etc. Sizes such as 1.7cm or 1.8cm are not available, which means the height cannot be customized other than in 0.05cm increments. Of course, if the order quantity is large, we can produce the desired size according to your requirements, but we do not recommend this type of customizing because of the following points:

A: The minimum order quantity is very large (50,000 meters, about 500,000pcs of printed cotton labels),

      B. The cost is very expensive (the mold cost alone is USD 398).

      C. The production time is very long (15-25 days, not including printing time).

5. How many colors are available for printed labels?

We can print up to 12 colors (not including the background color), but the more colors you order, the more expensive is the cost of the label. We recommend that customers keep the label order within 3 colors.

Note: We can also print unlimited colors of printed cotton labels, this is called digital full-color printing. More information for this option is available upon request.

6. Can the color of the printed label material be selected?

  • Satin material: For flat satin ribbon, we have 268 colors available for you to choose from.
  • Cotton tape material: white, off-white, black, and natural colors are available.
  • Nylon material: Only white can be selected.
  • Tyvek material: Available in black or white.
  • TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) material: Available in black or white.
  • The color of all materials can be customized according to the original or Pantone color number provided by you. The dyeing cost is USD 58-69 per color and the dyeing time is 10-15 days. The minimum order quantity depends on the size of the printed label, such as 2cm wide satin ribbon tape, the minimum order quantity is 3,000 M/color (approximately 30,000pcs printed labels).

7. What are the folding methods for the printed labels?

What folding methods are used for woven labels

The folding methods are the same as woven labels – straight cuts, left and right folds, top& bottom folds, centerfolds, book cover folds, Manhattan folds, and miter folds are commonly used. The folding method should also be part of your logo design. Of course, different printed labels are sewn with different placements because of their different designs as well as different folding methods. We have another article about folding methods. Here is the link for your reference.

8. What are the printing processes of the printed label?

  • Silk screen printing: This is our most commonly used process. All materials can be used because the texts have sharp print, full ink, and the highest colorfastness.
  • Flexographic printing: This can only be used for white satin ribbons, and the printed graphics are not full ink as screen printing, the text/logo looks lighter.

  • Conventional rotary printing: This can only be used for white satin tape. The printing effect is not very good, and the color fastness is poor.

  • Heat transfer: This printing process is recommended for designs with a lot of intricate details.

9. What kinds of backing are available for printed labels?

  • Iron on printed labels: A layer of hot-melt adhesive is added to the back of the tape. It will melt when it is heated before use and it will be bonded after cooling.
  • Stick on printed labels: Double-sided tape is added to the back of the printed labels. When you need to use it, peel off the protective strip on the surface of the double-sided tape and stick it to the product. It is usually used for one-time activities or gatherings. This kind of printed label is glued to clothes or hats, or other items and the printed labels can be taken off after the event, without damaging clothes or leaving marks.

  • Sew-on printed labels: Normally, the backing or the reverse side has not been processed in any way. This is also the most conventional and common printed label backing. This kind of label is usually sewn on clothes or other products with thread.

10. Will the printed labels fade?

Because the principle of the printed label is to attach the ink to the surface of the tape, the colorfastness is definitely not as good as the woven label. But because we use a fixative, imported ink, and advanced printing technology, the colorfastness of the printed labels will meet customer requirements. Based on our tests, under normal washing conditions, there is no fading after 20 washes. Of course, as the number of washes increases, the color will gradually fade.

11. What are the factors that affect the price of printed labels?

The factors that most affect the price include:

  • Order quantity.
  • Printing color quantity (a single color is the most inexpensive).
  • Type of material (standard material is the most economical).
  • Size quantity (such as S, M, L).
  • The size of the printed labels.
  • The folding method (Roll-to-roll is the lowest price).

What is the duration of the production lead time for the printed labels?

The production lead time for printed labels may vary based on factors such as order quantity, design complexity, and the current production season (whether it is off-season or peak season). However, regardless of the order size, even for small quantities like 500pcs, the fastest production lead time is 6 working days. This timeframe includes 2 working days for raw material procurement, 1 working day for machine production, 1 working day for cutting, 1 working day for folding, and 1 working day for inspection and packaging. The production turnaround time remains the same for quantities ranging from 500pcs to 5,000pcs. In case of adverse weather conditions like typhoons, heavy fog, heavy snow, or unexpected events such as a pandemic, there might be delays in the raw material supply chain from the material supplier to the label producer, resulting in longer production lead times.

13. How to inspect the quality of printed labels?

When the order is finished, the items we check for quality are:

  • The content: Is it the same as the approved artwork or the approved pre-production sample?
  • The placement of the content: Is it centered or not?
  • The size of the printed label: Is it the same as the approved sample?
  • Check the color.
  • Has colorfastness been tested?
  • Whether there are stains or defects on the surface of the label.
  • Whether there is an indentation on the surface.
  • Has the quality of the packaging been checked and evaluated? In addition to checking the label size and other aspects of the labels, our packaging department will pack the labels neatly in the box before shipping.

14. How to Ensure Your Printed Labels Purchase Goes Smoothly?

When the pre-production samples are ready, ask your printed label manufacturer to send you 5pcs of the pre-production samples. After receiving the samples, check carefully against the points mentioned above (point 13) to ensure that the pre-production samples are perfect.

Then send back 2pcs of the samples to your label supplier. Before sending, you need to ensure the sample will be used as the production reference. Take a good photo, tell your fabric label maker that the sample must be maintained in good order, tell the vendor to process the mass production according to the approved sample, and you must ensure that the vendor knows that this sample is the standard for inspection.

If time permits, after the printed labels are finished, ask them to send you 50pcs of the bulk samples so you can check them against the pre-production samples. If time does not allow, ask the fabric label suppliers to provide detailed photos and videos against the samples you sent them. You must ensure they are using the samples you have marked as a reference sample. If your quantity is relatively large, you can also entrust a third party to inspect the goods, such as SGS, TUV, BV, ITS.
